Kansas City Royals who could be traded prior to 2019 season
The Kansas City Royals are heading into a lackluster offseason, but there could be a chance that some trades are made. Which Royals could be dealt before the 2019 season begins?
Rebuilding isn’t fun, but it’s especially boring in the offseason. Kansas City Royals fans are currently experiencing this, as it’s doubtful the organization makes a lot of eye popping moves this winter.
The Royals could, however, opt to move a few of their players via a trade if other teams are willing to send back some decent prospects in return. Which Royals could be on the move this winter? Let’s take a look.
CHESLOR CUTHBERT
We’ll start the list off with an underwhelming name in Cheslor Cuthbert. Cuthbert once seemed to be a promising backup third baseman behind Mike Moustakas and proved he could handle the starting duties in 2016 when Moose went out for the season with an injury.
Since then, however, Cuthbert hasn’t been anything special. He’s struggled to stay healthy and even when he is healthy enough to play, his offensive production isn’t all that good.
After batting .274 in 2016, Cuthbert batted .231 in 2017 and a mere .194 this past season. Both seasons saw Cuthbert getting limited at bats due to injury/being a bench player, but the fact that Hunter Dozier closed 2018 out as the every day third baseman gave him opportunities to prove he’s the right guy for the job moving forward.
It’s doubtful that the Royals actually do trade Cuthbert because not many teams are probably interested in a mediocre, injury prone third baseman, but he does have some perks. Cuthbert will be just 26 years old when the 2019 season starts up and he has proven he can play decently on a daily basis, at least in 2016.
Teams looking for depth on the bench might consider adding him, but it wouldn’t be for much in return.
