Miles, as mentioned prior, does have some name recognition.

With the name recognition does come a bit of legitimacy for and within the program. If the university, the fans/boosters and Miles himself view the situation correctly, a move for Les Miles could set up the Jayhawk program to establish a foundation, something that this tide of coaching changes in recent years has robbed the program of.

My first call would be to Neal Brown, the head coach at Troy. This year, they went into Lincoln and defeated Nebraska. Last year, they went into Baton Rouge and defeated LSU.

In just his third year as coach, Troy has amassed a 32-15 record and two bowl wins. Brown coached at both Kentucky and Texas Tech prior to taking the head coaching job, and currently is 7-2 and 5-0 in conference play.

Brown is young by coaching standards, sitting at 38 years old, and isn’t making a bunch of money in the Sun Belt Conference. Could Brown be had at KU for a salary in the range of 2 million per? I think that at least gets a discussion. For reference, I’d guess Miles would take at least 3-4 per to take the job.
