The Kansas City Royals have a few guys hitting the open market this offseason. What kind of contracts should those players expect?

This offseason is nothing like a year ago where the Kansas City Royals saw many of their core players hit free agency. While two of the five big names returned to Kansas City, that likely won’t be the case this winter.

Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports wrote an article about what kind of contracts this winter’s free agents are looking at. What kind of deals did he say the Royals free agents might get on the open market? Let’s break it down.

MIKE MOUSTAKAS

It might not seem like Mike Moustakas is really the Royals’ free agent considering they traded him to Milwaukee in July, but everyone still associates him as a Royal. Moose gets to do this whole free agent thing over again, after it didn’t go too well for him last year.

As you might remember, Moustakas didn’t get much traction and eventually re-signed with the Royals on a one-year deal. Moose did well in Kansas City and was flipped to the Brewers in a trade that worked out well for both sides.

Moose got to play with the Brewers all the way up to Game 7 of the NLCS and that should held his stock this offseason. Even with Manny Machado and Josh Donaldson hitting free agency, Moustakas shouldn’t have nearly as bad of luck as he did a year ago.

Heyman’s post signified that an expert said Moustakas would get a four-year deal worth $52 million overall. Heyman himself predicted a three-year deal for $42 million. Moustakas probably gladly takes that after what happened last year.
