Kansas City Chiefs: Possible trade targets for Chiefs at deadline

POSSIBLE TRADE TARGETS FOR CHIEFS
PATRICK PETERSON, CORNERBACK (CARDINALS)
I won’t spend much time here simply because the player and a potential trade to KC have been discussed at length all over the internet in recent weeks. There isn’t much left to be said. I don’t see a trade happening, but that’s just my opinion.
To score it out, the Chiefs would need to take on roughly 5.17 million just for the remainder of this season to fit Peterson under the cap. That means the likely release of one, if not two, veterans. On top of what some have mentioned multiple first round picks, it’s a costly venture. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network proposed this:
That move would certainly fit for the Chiefs, as they would basically be moving down a few spots in the 2019 NFL Draft. The issue is in the 2020 NFL Draft, as they would be without their first, fourth and seventh round pick. That’s a steep price to pay for a cornerback in his late 20s. However, Peterson is good, scoring an 83.3 through Pro Football Focus, good enough for fourth in the league.
This is a scenario that bears watching. Does Peterson address the Chiefs biggest need? No, not really. That belongs to safety and perhaps even defensive line.
With that said, however, Peterson is good enough that he likely can make people around him better. The Kansas City Chiefs would have him under contract through the 2021 season so unlike the others, he would not be an end of season rental.
