Kansas City Chiefs: Good, Bad, Ugly vs Patriots in week 6 of 2018
UGLY: RUN DEFENSE
So much for fixing that run defense, huh? Rookie Sony Michel took it to the Chiefs on the ground, carrying the rock 24 times for 106 yards and two scores. The Patriots run defense as a whole had 38 carries for 173 yards.
Remember – Brett Veach seemed to make it a priority to fix the run defense this offseason and that doesn’t look like that’s been mended whatsoever. If the Chiefs want to be a contender in January, they have to start shutting down the run. This is unacceptable.
Speaking of unacceptable, rookie Breeland Speaks had Tom Brady in his grasp, but appeared to have let him go. Brady then took the ball four yards into the end zone for a touchdown. Yeah, not good, rookie.
I get the new rules regarding hitting the quarterback have limited defenders from doing what they’d normally do, but you have to take the risk there and bring Brady down. There was some chatter on the evening news that followed the game, however, that Speaks thought Brady had thrown the ball already, so he did what he felt was best there. Still… Blegh.
