FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS NORTHWESTERN

NUMBER 1 – HUSKERS SLOWLY PIECING IT TOGETHER

While the Cornhuskers are 0-5, there were positive things to take out of last week’s loss to Wisconsin. For one, Nebraska wasn’t out of the game really ever. Sure they lost by double digits, but it was only 20-3 at half time and the Huskers held their own throughout that first half.

Nebraska didn’t just let Wisconsin walk all over them. They made the Badgers play hard and shut down the Wisconsin passing game. Of course, Wisconsin gashed the Cornhuskers on the ground, so they really didn’t have to throw all that much.

That’ll be an important thing for this week, as Northwestern is the opposite of Wisconsin. They’re not a good running team, but can air it out like nobody’s business. Can Nebraska shift gears or will they let a weak rushing attack stomp all over them?

Even though Nebraska lost last week, most fans (like myself) were expecting a much uglier score. A 41-24 defeat wasn’t nearly as bad as games against Wisconsin have been in the past. Perhaps hanging with a ranked team for a majority of the game will teach these young Cornhuskers that they are capable of defying the odds.
