Nebraska Football: Five things to watch vs Northwestern Wildcats
FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS NORTHWESTERN
NUMBER 4 – NORTHWESTERN NOT A RUNNING TEAM
Perhaps it was just a really, really bad week for the Wildcats a week ago, but the purple and white rushed for just eight yards on the day. That wasn’t a typo… They rushed for eight yards on 20 total carries. That’s good for an average of 0.4 yards a carry.
In their game prior to the Michigan State one, Northwestern totaled just 28 yards on the ground. So yeah, this isn’t a team with the ability to run the football down the opposition’s throat. If they run all over Nebraska, then that shows how bad their run defense truly is.
Nebraska had a rough day against the run last week, but there have been times when they were good at shutting down the run in the past (mainly in their first game). If they can shut down what’s already proven to be a weak rushing attack in Northwestern, that’ll make the Wildcats one dimensional.
This is good for game planning, but obviously Northwestern is still going to attempt to run the ball. The fact that they haven’t succeeded in doing so the last two games, however, is certainly a good sign for Nebraska.
