Mizzou football had the week off, but now they’re back to it and will hit the road for their fifth game of the season. Missouri will travel to a different Columbia to face the Gamecocks of South Carolina.

After losing to the second ranked Georgia Bulldogs a few weeks ago, the Missouri Tigers had a week off to think about their first and only loss of the 2018 season. Things won’t get any easier for MU, as this upcoming game will be the first of two straight road games for the Tigers.

South Carolina is the first of those two road games and while they’re only 2-2 on the year, the Gamecocks were ranked at one point this season. They have the ability to be a really good team, but they’re similar to Missouri in that they don’t play all that well against tougher opponents.

  • As I just mentioned, the South Carolina Gamecocks were ranked nationally at one point. They were 24th in the nation in week two, but quickly lost their ranked status after falling 41-17 to Georgia.

Since then, South Carolina hasn’t been in the conversation to be ranked and got their butts whooped by Kentucky (another ranked team) last weekend. They really are a boom or bust type of team.

The Gamecocks have been a team that has had MU’s number since the Tigers moved to the SEC and absolutely walloped Missouri a season ago.  South Carolina can be either a really good team or a disappointing team. They have the firepower to hang with the best teams, but also are prone to have a few stinkers throughout their season.

Are the Tigers going to face the Gamecocks that put up 37 points on Vanderbilt or are they going to get the South Carolina squad that scored just ten points last week? For Missouri fans’ sakes, I hope it’s the latter.
