Kansas City Chiefs: Good, Bad, Ugly vs Broncos in week 4 of 2018
The Kansas City Chiefs traveled to Denver for a date with the Broncos on Monday Night Football and came out victorious with a score of 27-23. What was good, what was bad, and what was ugly in this one?
What a huge win for the Kansas City Chiefs on the road, on Monday Night Football, and in front of a loud (and mean) Broncos crowd. Once again the Chiefs offense had to carry the team, but it wasn’t as easy as it had been through the first three weeks. Patrick Mahomes finally looked human (at least in the first half) and the Broncos made it a point to apply pressure as often as they could.
The good news is that Mahomes turned back into the freak that he is (HE COMPLETED A PASS WITH HIS LEFT HAND) in the second half and ultimately helped lead the Chiefs to victory. This was the type of game where people questioned if Mahomes would be able to handle the pressure of playing from behind in front of a tough environment. I think he answered all of those questions with this performance.
The defense was useless in this game and will be the reason the Chiefs lose some tough games down the road. I get that the NFL is predominantly an offensive league now, but teams still have to play decent defense and the Chiefs aren’t doing that. More on all of this later in its own segment (I’m sure you can already guess which one).
With the game getting over pretty late, this will be a shorter “Good, Bad, Ugly” edition because hey… I have to get some sleep and wake up in time for work the next day just like everyone else. So, let’s get right into it!
GOOD: MITCHELL SCHWARTZ
Normally the offensive line is grouped together, but I’m bucking that trend and giving Mitchell Schwartz his own entry this week. The Chiefs brought Schwartz in from Cleveland a few years back because he was the only right tackle who could limit Von Miller. He’s done that wonderfully ever since Kansas City signed him.
While the rest of the offensive line was mediocre in this one (they did open some holes for Kareem Hunt to make big time runs), Schwartz continues to be a superstar at right tackle. This is why the Chiefs pay him the big bucks.
