Kansas State Football: Several lingering issues in loss to West Virginia
By John McCarty
Again, this isn’t a ‘You must start Skylar Thompson’ campaign.
It does though point out, when Snyder said Delton played ‘extremely well’ and was not positive at all in discussing Thompson’s play, what game is he looking at?
It needs to be pointed out, the Wildcats could get very little going rushing the football. K-State, as a team, averaged less than three yards per carry (2.5). Too many times Barnes either had no hole to run through or simply wasn’t fast enough to do anything when the holes were there. However, thist team in general is not fast, something we will touch on in a moment.
West Virginia, a team that loves to pass the football, outrushed the Cats. Not to be outdone with issues on defense, the Kansas State defense was again unable to get off the field on third down, allowing West Virginia to go 8 of 12. For those at home, that’s staggering.
What also is staggering, do you remember the last time Kansas State forced an opponent into four turnovers (Cats were +3 on the day) and still lost in embarrassing fashion?
When, as a team, you are +3 in the turnover department and you don’t win, that speaks more to overall talent than it does single player executing. Either the scheme of which you game plan is flawed or simply there are not the horses to make the system run.
