Kansas State football is 2-2 after four weeks of play and neither quarterback has played well enough to earn the starting job. Will that be the case all season?

The biggest storyline for Kansas State football at the end of the 2017 season was which quarterback would win the starting job in 2018. Would it be junior Alex Delton or sophomore Skylar Thompson? Well, so far through four games, the answer is neither.

So far, Thompson has passed for more yards, posting 360 yards through the air with four touchdowns and an interception. Delton has had just 177 passing yards with one touchdown and two picks.

Thompson has also been more effective with his legs, totaling 158 yards on the ground with one touchdown while Delton has just 88 rushing yards and hasn’t found the end zone. Neither guy has shown much to give K-State to be excited about, but it appears that Thompson is getting more opportunities.

More from Kansas State Wildcats

In Saturday’s loss to West Virginia, Thompson played for most of the game and was mostly ineffective for the Wildcats. He went 11 of 17 for 145 yards for a quarterback rating of 18.7 and was pulled in the third quarter when Kansas State was completely out of the game.

Delton took over and didn’t fare much better, completing seven passes out of 12 attempts for 82 yards. He didn’t get a ton of playing time and as of now, it appears that Thompson is getting more opportunities to quarterback the offense.

it was a rough day for Kansas State football in Morgantown, as they got kicked to the curb. West Virginia rolled to a 35-6 victory and it never really felt like the Cats were in this one despite their defense forcing two turnovers early in the game.

When Kansas State was at its peak, it had Collin Klein taking snaps as the quarterback and he WAS the team’s offense. Thompson and Delton haven’t shown they can lead the team like that this year.

We saw Delton play well in the Cactus Bowl last year and Thompson had a nice end of the regular season in 2017. Where are those guys in 2018? The Wildcats need one of them to emerge as the leader of this offense and be able to put up some points.

K-State hosts Texas next weekend and that game could get away from the Wildcats quickly if they fail to find the end zone again. KSU did not score a touchdown against West Virginia and only notched two field goals all day. That’s not going to get it done in the Big 12 against very high-scoring offenses.
