Interior Offensive Line

The 49ers lack the outside pass rush, but their interior is rock solid. Spending three consecutive first-round picks of defensive linemen before the 2018 Draft has bolstered that group with star talent. Names like DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead, and Solomon Thomas who will likely get more playing time in this game coming up.

The Kansas City offensive line has looked good through two weeks of football. Even in Pittsburgh where the Steelers tried numerous blitz packages to disrupt Patrick Mahomes, the offensive line looked good and kept Mahomes for the most part clean. Some of that also has to do with Mahomes’ ability to recognize pressure and escape.

The tackles will likely have an easier day than they’ve faced in the first two games, but that interior for San Francisco could cause some issues in the middle. The 49ers rank 19th in adjusted sack rate according to Football Outsiders which is primarily due to their lack of outside pass rush. If Kansas City can keep playing the way they have so far this season in pass protection, it could be another big day for Patrick Mahomes.

dark. Next. Patrick Mahomes could set more records in Week 3

The issue for the Chiefs offensive line is the run blocking.

Kareem Hunt

and

Spencer Ware

have had little to work with through two games. Kansas City is going to need the run game at some point, which means this offensive line will need to do a better job at opening up holes. We might see Kansas City lean towards running to the outside in Week 3.
