Defensive End Chris Jones

As I mentioned with Justin Houston, the San Francisco 49ers offensive line has struggled to keep Garoppolo on his feet. Some of that has to do with the offensive line talent, and some of that has to do with Garoppolo taking sacks that he shouldn’t. Regardless, finding pressure up the middle will be key this week as the outside pass rush forces Jimmy G to step up into the pocket.

The 49ers have had struggles not only at the right tackle position but the left guard as well. Chris Jones has wreaked havoc on opposing offensive lines the last two weeks despite not coming away with a sack yet. Between the first two weeks of the season, I’ve charted Jones having eight pressures, six hurries, and two quarterback hits.

Disrupting the pocket will be a crucial factor as I mentioned to disrupting this offense. San Francisco likes to run out of heavy sets passing the ball which will create mismatches for the Chiefs defense. To protect the secondary that has given up the most yards in the league so far this season, even if it is against top ten offenses, the defensive line will have to not only get pressure this week but bring down Garoppolo.
