FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS GEORGIA

NUMBER 4 – RUN DEFENSE

Sticking with the defense, Missouri fared incredibly well against a Purdue rushing attack that had been killing it. They limited the Boilermaker running backs to just 42 yards on the ground and the leading rusher for Purdue had just 23 yards on seven carries.

Purdue found success through the air after their run game was shut down (and were also playing from behind early on, which forced them to abandon the run and turn to passing), but I questioned how well Missouri would be able to stop those backs. This week, they’ll welcome in a Georgia team that rushed for 261 yards last week.

Elijah Holyfield had eight carries for 100 yards and 66 of those yards came on one play. The Bulldogs lost two legitimate running backs through the draft, but they’re still able to wreck havoc on the ground. Holyfield and D’Andre Swift lead the Bulldogs in rushing yards at the moment, with Holyfield putting up 200 yards through three games and Swift posting 119.

Missouri did its job stopping the run in week three, but let’s see if they can keep it going against Georgia this week. If so, this run defense might be for real.
