Kansas City Chiefs: How Do Chiefs Fair Among AFC Contenders
The Kansas City Chiefs have a long way to go before the playoffs. The hope is that the offense will continue its dominating fashion of putting up points while the defense makes some progressions. We knew going into this season that the secondary was going to be an issue after failing to address it over the entire offseason.
The front seven of the defense looks sharp with some new additions, and players getting back to healthy. I think that the run defense looks much improved, and even though the defense has only got two sacks on the season so far, I’m waiting for them to break out. Dee Ford has looked much better than I’ve ever seen him play, and the defense was all around Roethlisberger last week.
The offense has exceeded expectations. Patrick Mahomes looks like he doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. With that being said, I expect there to be some games where he doesn’t look like a four-touchdown quarterback.
If the team continues to go down this path that we have seen through two weeks of football, I don’t know why you don’t add them to the conversation for AFC Championship contenders. Until defenses find a way to rattle Mahomes or outscore this juggernaut of an offense, I think we could be looking at an intense playoff run. If the defense improves while all of that is happening even to just mediocre, we could be looking at an exceptional season.
