Kansas City Chiefs: How Do Chiefs Fair Among AFC Contenders
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars look to make it back to the AFC Championship where they made it a year ago only to be defeated by the New England Patriots. Jacksonville is in the argument for having the best defense in the league, along with Minnesota, and it could be a scary team to face.
Week 1 the Jaguars held the New York Giants to only 15 points. Eli Manning threw for 224 yards and zero touchdowns. Half of those yards went to Odell Beckham Jr. who returned this season which could give some hopes for Kansas City. The Chiefs have a slew of talent at the wide receiving positions that even Jacksonville could struggle to cover.
They also allowed for rookie running back Saquon Barkley to run for 106 yards on 18 attempts which averages at 5.9 yards per carry. Against the New England Patriots in Week 2, the defense showed it’s capability to shut down top names like tight end Rob Gronkowski. Without Gronk, the Patriots are extremely limited with their weapons.
Luckily for Kansas City, the Jaguars offense is spotty. Jacksonville extended quarterback Blake Bortles this offseason who might be the most unpredictable quarterback in the NFL. One week he will go out and have 377 yards and four touchdowns against a shaky Patriots defense, and other weeks he will throw four interceptions.
The Jaguars are a run-first team but were without their starting running back against the Patriots. If they try and run against the Chiefs, I think it would be good for Kansas City as the run defense looks like the strength this season. I believe that the Jaguars are off to a hot start in a division that is struggling. With a win over the Patriots early in the season, I see them being one of the top teams to go to the AFC Championship in 2018.
