Nebraska Football: Five things to watch vs Troy Trojans
FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS TROY
NUMBER 3 – DEFENSIVE LINE NEEDS TO DO WORK AGAIN/SECONDARY NEEDS TO STEP IT UP
I’m combining the defensive section into one slide because there’s a lot to get to in this week’s edition and these can be put together. One unit had a good first week, the other… Not so much.
Aside from Adrian Martinez, the most exciting part of last week’s game was watching that Husker defensive line crush the Buffs early on. The Huskers notched seven sacks (which was half of their total from a year ago) and absolutely shut down that CU run game.
While that was all fine and dandy, that forced Colorado to take to the sky in order to move the football and that’s where Nebraska was exposed. The secondary made a few decent plays, but allowed the Buffs to go down the field with ease.
Troy quarterback Kaleb Barker isn’t going to get a lot of discussion, but he had a nice showing last week against Florida A&M. He threw for four total touchdowns and ran in another, giving him five on the day. Barker’s ability to both throw and run effectively could give Nebraska some problems.
The Troy running game put up nearly 300 yards on offense last week, but Nebraska held Colorado to under 100 yards rushing. That’ll be a match-up to watch for sure.
As for Troy’s passing game, Barker threw for only 140 yards last week, but the four touchdowns is an area to keep an eye on. Nebraska’s secondary was easily exposed last week, so let’s hope they make the right adjustments and don’t let Barker have himself a day.
