Kansas City Chiefs: 5 Players To Watch Against The Pittsburgh Steelers
Orlando Scandrick
The cornerback position for Kansas City continues to be the concern. While more than half of Philip Rivers’ yards last week came in the fourth quarter when Kansas City was playing prevent defense, there were still ugly plays in the secondary that makes us all nervous.
Some of this has to do with the players not having any time spent together. Cornerback Orlando Scandrick joined the Chiefs following the Week 2 game of the preseason. He played in the third preseason game which was his only one before the regular season. He had yet to work with Steven Nelson or Ron Parker who rejoined the team following final roster cuts.
Getting that chemistry between plays in the secondary and communication will be a major factor in this game. There were a couple of plays including the late touchdown to Keenan Allen that Scandrick was trying to signal for help over the top and it didn’t get there. I would like to see some of that get cleaned up with the weapons that Pittsburgh will be deploying.
When charting Scandrick, I counted only three of seven targets getting to the receiver. Unfortunately, two of those were for touchdowns. I still believe that Scandrick can be better than what we saw on Sunday, but I would still like to see that communication and help over the top for him with the likes of Antonio Brown lining up on the other side most likely.
