UGLY: TURNOVERS
Were it not for a pair of fumbles on the Huskers’ first two drives, we’re likely singing a much different tune this morning. Instead, here we are, discussing a loss.
On Nebraska’s first drive of the Scott Frost era, the Huskers were driving down the field and made it to the Colorado 23-yard line. Running back Greg Bell fumbled the football and the Buffs recovered. They went on to take the pigskin the other way for a touchdown and it was a brutal way for the season to start.
After the Buffs put up those seven points, Nebraska got the ball back and Adrian Martinez coughed up the football on the second play of the drive. Colorado recovered it and scored not long after.
From there, Nebraska’s offense started to gel, but late in the game, another costly turnover kept the Buffaloes in the game. After an excellent defensive stand by the Cornhuskers, Martinez and the offense took the field and the true freshman threw an interception on his first attempt of the drive.
Football 101: If you lose the turnover battle, there’s a good chance you’re going to lose the game. Had Nebraska eliminated just ONE of those turnovers, they’re probably 1-0 right now.
