Week 3 – Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers (Travis)

One team that is hard to predict for this season is the San Francisco 49ers. Last season, the franchise traded to acquire the New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Given his success in the final games of the season winning out the year, it would seem that the 49ers could be in for some success in 2018.

San Francisco spent the offseason building the offensive line for Garoppolo. With their new franchise quarterback and the contract they just secured, it’s smart to put some pieces in place to protect the young QB.

Unfortunately, the team did very little to bring in talented playmakers. They brought in Minnesota Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon this offseason, but he tore his ACL during practice this preseason and will be out for the season.

With the lack of wide receiver talent, I’m not sold on this offense. Garoppolo undoubtfully brought life to the 49ers franchise at the end of last season. Now teams have more film on him.

The honeymoon will be over for this offense and they will not be able to keep up with Kansas City. While Garoppolo is another young quarterback on the rise much like Patrick Mahomes, I think that the Chiefs benefit from their home crowd during their home opener. Even Kyle Shanahan’s offense won’t be enough to keep his quarterback in the lead.

Prediction: Kansas City’s defense will look it’s best it has all season against the 49ers. I expect for the front seven to get after Garoppolo. KC wins 27-21.

Standout Player: Justin Houston will take advantage of young tackles like rookie Mike McGlinchey and have a multiple sack production.

RECORD: 2-1
