The Kansas City Chiefs drafted six players in the 2018 NFL Draft, and two undrafted rookies made the roster. What should we expect from them in 2018?
Without a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs drafted six rookies. They also brought in some UDFA rookies, two of which made the final roster cut while a few others made the practice squad. Given what we have seen in the preseason, it’s not likely that we will see a massive contribution from this year’s class in 2018, at least, not in the early part of the season.
That can be concerning when it seems that the Chiefs have not done exceptionally well drafting starters on the defensive side of the ball over the last few seasons. In fact, half of your draft picks from last offseason are already off of the roster. When is a good time for the team to start looking for starters in the draft, and not just project players?
Regardless, most of these rookies will not see much playing time in 2018. There are some players that I could see getting time as the season goes on. I could even see some of them taking over starting positions later in the season.
This season was the first draft that GM Brett Veach was in charge of drafting players. He took some players that would be developmental projects along with switching positions coming into the NFL. The first would be second-round pick Breeland Speaks.
