Offensive Line

Keep: Eric Fisher, Cam Erving, Mitch Morse, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Mitchell Schwartz, Andrew Wylie, Kahlil McKenzie, Ryan Hunter

The offensive line has been one of the most interesting groups for me to watch this preseason. I know that sounds silly, but when you look at the number of guys that the team is trying out at different positions behind the starters, it’s hard to figure out how many and which guys they will end up holding onto.

Before training camp, the left guard spot was considered a battle between Bryan Witzmann and Parker Ehinger. Entering camp, that battle was not a thing anymore. Cam Erving took over as the starter and Ehinger has been working at right tackle ever since.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t looked good at the tackle position this preseason getting beat by third and fourth string players. That could be a major reason why the team decided to trade him to the Dallas Cowboys just before the preseason game for UDFA cornerback Charvarious Ward.

Andrew Wylie has solidified his spot in my opinion as the sixth lineman. Stepping up and playing in the absence of LDT is not the entire reason that I have him making this roster. Wylie can play every position along the offensive line except center. That kind of versatility is what will find him a spot on the final roster.

Two guys that I’m interested to see what the team does with are sixth-round pick Kahlil McKenzie and UDFA Ryan Hunter. McKenzie has spent all offseason and preseason working to move from the defensive side of the line to the offensive side. Hunter came in from Canada and was the top prospect in the Canadian draft this year. Both are likely to be taken if they end up on the practice squad, but the team likely can’t fit both on the roster.
