Kansas City Chiefs: Final Roster Predictions Following Preseason
Running Back
Keep: Kareem Hunt, Spencer Ware, Damien Williams, Darrel Williams, Anthony Sherman
The running back position is one that has not changed for me all preseason. Going into training camp, I was high on UDFA rookie Darrel Williams. I still don’t understand how this kid wasn’t drafted at least in the later rounds. While he was a backup at LSU, he was also sitting behind Leonard Fornette and Darius Guice.
Ware saw only a few snaps this preseason as the Chiefs are slowly bringing him back into the game. He restructured his deal betting on himself with moving some of his money into incentives. From what I’ve heard, the incentives are not hard to reach, but more of an insurance policy for the team if Ware was to go down with another injury.
Damien Williams has looked outstanding this preseason and solidified his spot over former beloved Chief Charcandrick West. He’s been explosive running the ball, catching the ball out of the backfield, and proved his abilities to protect the quarterback in the pocket.
I’m interested to see if the Chiefs try and move one of their remaining running backs before cut down day. Darrel Williams looked good against the Packers. I wonder if they try and use him as trade bait or keep him as a fourth running back.
