Preseason means that hot takes and predictions are released every day. I’m doing something a bit different and look ahead at the Kansas City Chiefs future.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, having so many unanswered questions going into the 2018 season means steady work for the prediction specialists that cover them. Using the term specialist loosely, I attempt to provide the reader with something that extends beyond the upcoming season.

How will Patrick Mahomes perform? Can anyone catch Tyreek Hill? Will so and so make the roster? Is so and so healthy? These are samples of some of the questions many articles are written to answer.

What about beyond this season? What can fans expect in the near future for their franchise? From the eyes of the author, we get a glimpse of what awaits for the Kansas City Chiefs. Let’s get right to it with the first hot take.

Patrick Mahomes will be a Kansas City Chief his entire career

It had been quite some time since the Kansas City Chiefs selected a quarterback with a first-round pick. 1983 was the year, and with the seventh pick, the Chiefs selected Todd Blackledge ahead of Hall of Famers Dan Marino and Jim Kelly.

The Chiefs traded up to grab Mahomes in the first round of the 2017 draft, setting off a flurry of dominoes in its wake. One thing is for certain, the Kansas City Chiefs have made it obvious that they believe in this kid. His arm, his will to learn and to win, his arm, his attitude, his demeanor, his arm, and his fearlessness have made the franchise fall in love with him.

So much that the Chiefs shipped off a proven quarterback in Alex Smith. The Chiefs started building a team around him. This loyalty and confidence in a young man set values in stone. The Chiefs are willing to work through the growing pains to achieve the desired end result.

Besides all of the above, Kansas City doesn’t draft quarterbacks, at least beyond the caliber of Tyler Bray or Brodie Croyle.

If Mahomes continues to learn and mature, there is absolutely no reason to think that his performance on the field will decline. It will only improve.

Mahomes will return the loyalty and the opportunity by sticking with the team that drafted him.
