FANTASY FOOTBALL DEEP SLEEPERS TO TARGET: NUMBER 7 – CURTIS SAMUEL

Curtis Samuel seemed like a good deep sleeper candidate last year, but did not live up to that hype. He had just 15 receptions for 115 yards  as a rookie in Carolina a season ago. To be fair, he did get injured in the middle of the season, but it was still a disappointing showing from the Ohio State product.

So, why take a chance on Samuel then, you ask? Well, that’s easy. He started to get more opportunities after Kelvin Benjamin was traded, but then missed the rest of the season due to injury.

Samuel will now be overlooked in nearly every league because of his lackluster 2017 campaign and the fact that the Panthers drafted D.J. Moore in the first round this year. He’ll have to compete with both Moore, Devin Funchess, Christian McCaffrey, and Greg Olsen for targets too, which could scare some owners away.

Why I like Samuel as a deep sleeper is because of his ability to make plays as both a receiver and as a running back. He did both for the Buckeyes in college and briefly ran the ball last year in Carolina, carrying the rock four times for 64 yards.
