POTENTIAL SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS: FRANK SCHWINDEL

For anyone following along with the minor league action, Frank Schwindel is probably a name you’ve heard a lot over the course of the season. Schwindel was the spring training darling this year and has looked pretty good all year long in Omaha.

He’s currently slashing .284/.337/.503 with 22 home runs and 85 RBI in 461 at bats. Schwindel deserves a call-up in September, but unfortunately isn’t on the 40-man roster. If the Royals do opt to bring him to Kansas City, they’ll have to drop someone else off their 40-man roster and that just doesn’t seem all that likely.

Schwindel offers the ability to play first base, be the designated hitter, or even act as the catcher. He has versatility and is the type of player the Royals normally covet. Let’s hope they give the 26-year old a shot.

POTENTIAL SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS: GLENN SPARKMAN

Glenn Sparkman, or “Sparky” as he liked to be called, is a surefire name that is going to return to Kansas City in a week. The reason I know that? Ned Yost said so himself after Sparkman was sent back down to Omaha when Danny Duffy was recalled.

The manager saying Sparkman will return probably means he’s going to be back when September call-ups happen. Sparkman hasn’t been great, posting a 5.25 ERA, but nothing about this season has been great honestly. Maybe he can develop a little more and come back better than ever for 2019.
