POTENTIAL SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS: TREVOR OAKS

Trevor Oaks came over from the Dodgers when the Royals dealt Scott Alexander to Los Angeles. Oaks has spent limited time in the majors (four games/two starts and 13.2 innings pitched) and hasn’t fared all that well.

To this point, Oaks has an ERA over seven and an 0-2 record as a Major League pitcher. He’s done better in the minors, starting 21 games for the Storm Chasers to the tune of a 2.83 ERA and 1.139 WHIP. He’s 8-7 as a Triple-A pitcher this year.

Oaks has shown the chops in the minor leagues, so now it’s just about letting him polish things in the pros. He has the ability to be a nice piece for either the rotation or the bullpen, but he has to take his lumps and find his form on the mound first.

POTENTIAL SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS: PAULO ORLANDO

Yes, Paulo Orlando is still on the Royals roster and is nearly a shoe-in to be called up next month. Orlando is 32 years old and won’t hit free agency until 2022, but it’s doubtful the Royals hold onto him for that long. He’s got to be almost out of options and the Royals really don’t have much of a place for him anymore.

Orlando has had just 90 at bats for the big league club this year, slashing .167/.194/.200 during that time with just five RBI. Orlando will always be appreciated for his efforts during the 2015 World Series championship season, but there’s not much of a good reason to keep him around anymore.
