POTENTIAL SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS: CAM GALLAGHER

One of the most likeliest call-ups next week is catcher Cam Gallagher, who honestly deserved better this season. Rather than give their 25-year old catcher prospect an opportunity to catch in some meaningless games (as in no pressure), they opted to continue using Drew Butera behind Salvador Perez.

Butera has no future with this team. He’ll be a free agent in a month. That’s why him continuing to get starts whenever Perez had a day off from catching was frustrating. Give Gallagher a chance!

Gallagher is doing fine in Omaha this year, batting .265 with four home runs and 42 RBI. He spent a brief period of time with the Royals at the beginning of the year due to Perez missing time because of an injury. Gallagher didn’t fare all that well then, hitting just .208 in 24 at bats.

All Gallagher had last year was 24 at bats, so hopefully the Royals give him more opportunities as the season winds down. He will more than likely be Perez’s back-up for the next few years, so why not let him take his lumps now while the games don’t matter?
