Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones

The Atlanta Falcons offense saw a major dropoff in 2017 as they made the transition at offensive coordinator. Following the loss in the Super Bowl, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan left for a head coaching job in San Fransisco. Steve Sarkisian took over the offense, and while the production was a major dropoff, the team is hoping for a better year two.

Despite a down season on offense, the Falcons still made it to the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs where they would lose to the Philadelphia Eagles. The offense was partly to blame as the Falcons only put up ten points against the Eagles and had they had one more touchdown they could have advanced.

There’s no telling what the offense will do in 2018, but I would assume it will be better. In year two of Sarkisian, the Falcons have added a better second wide receiver threat with rookie Calvin Ridley. Given his downfield threat, it will not take extra attention off of Jones, but it will limit how much extra attention he see’s.

Defenses were able to entirely lean to Julio Jones’ side of the field in 2017 without another viable threat. Despite all of the extra attention, Jones remained elite and put up 1,444 yards. The downfall was only hauling in three touchdowns. Given another season in the offense for Sarkisian, the hope is the offense will improve, and we all know that Jones will produce.
