Defensive Line

Keep: Chris Jones, Allen Bailey, Xavier Williams, Derrick Nnadi, Jarvis Jenkins

Cut: Stefan Charles, Mike Purcell, Justin Hamilton, T.Y. McGill

The defensive line continues to make me feel confident going into the regular season. Chris Jones looks even better than his previous two seasons, Xavier Williams continues to push the middle of the line backward, and rookie defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi comes in for his first preseason game with numerous flash plays.

While Nnadi was unable to perform against the Houston Texans due to an elbow injury suffered at camp, he came out looking good in the middle of the Chiefs defense. With stats like three tackles including one for a loss, one sack, and another quarterback hurry, I feel very confident about what I’m seeing from the rookie. Kansas City stopped two 4th and short plays including one where Nnadi penetrated his gap and stopped the running back for no gain.

While some fans are still concerned about the run defense, the starting linebackers not being on the field also affects the defensive line. The line opened up holes for the linebackers to take and get into the backfield but Ukeme Eligwe and Terrance Smith continued to hesitate. I’m very excited about what I’m seeing from the defensive line.
