Wide Receivers

Keep: Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Chris Conley, Demarcus Robinson, Gehrig Dieter

Cut: Byron Pringle, DeAnthony Thomas, Marcus Kemp, Jehu Chesson

The wide receiver position is another group that I haven’t felt a change is necessary. We talked about Jehu Chesson being a possible cut given his lack of reps with the second-team offense this preseason and with Tremon Smith looking to take over kick returns I feel it’s even more possible that the Chiefs only keep five wide receivers.

Gehrig Dieter is still getting second-team reps with the offense and contributing on special teams. His connection with Chad Henne for the touchdown on Friday night only made his case stronger for making the team. Marcus Kemp has seen some playing time over Chesson this preseason as well but has yet to make any kind of flash.

Kemp came away with only one reception for two yards against the Falcons. While he was a flash player last preseason with Patrick Mahomes, it seems that he is unable to show that same kind of talent with Chad Henne.

DeAnthony Thomas has yet to hit the field as he returns from his broken leg suffered late last season. Another player that will likely be cut due to Tremon Smith taking over the return game, I think it’s very unlikely that he makes the final squad this season.
