FANTASY FOOTBALL ROOKIES TO TARGET: NUMBER 2 – RONALD JONES

The Buccaneers landed their potential starting running back in the second round of the draft in Ronald Jones and now Jones will look to win the job outright out of preseason. Jones was a machine for USC last year, rushing for 1,550 yards and 14 touchdowns. He opted to forego his senior season and enter the draft where he became a second round draft pick by Tampa Bay.

While Peyton Barber could win the job over Jones to start the year, that shouldn’t last long. Barber had just 423 yards last year with three touchdowns. Not exactly a franchise running back.

The Bucs are going to rely heavily on their run game in the first few games, as Jameis Winston will miss time due to a suspension. Tampa Bay will need Jones to step it up in these first few weeks and the stage could potentially be set on the rookie’s career if he comes out firing right out of the gate.

Keep an eye on the battle between Jones and Barber for the next few weeks. If Jones wins the job, he’ll be worthy of using an early round pick on. If Barber steals the job, however, try to draft both of them and that way if Barber flames out early, you’ll have his backup already on your team.
