FANTASY FOOTBALL ROOKIES TO TARGET: NUMBER 5 – SONY MICHEL

We just covered Nick Chubb, so now let’s move onto his Georgia teammate Sony Michel, who has the ability to be an amazing rookie standout in 2018. Michel had over 1,000 yards rushing in two of his four seasons with the Bulldogs and had a total of 39 touchdowns over that span.

Michel was a first round pick by the New England Patriots and could honestly compete for that starting running back job in Foxboro. The main thing to be weary of with Sony Michel, however, is that his has a pretty lengthy injury history. In fact, Michel made Forbes’ Zach Petersel’s list of running backs to avoid in fantasy football this year due to the injuries alone.

The injuries are certainly a concern, but if he remains healthy, Sony Michel will be a huge target for Tom Brady and will also get a bulk of the carries for the Pats. He’s going to have to battle for playing time with Rex Burkhead, Jeremy Hill, and whoever else makes the Pats’ final cut, but he’s used to competing with top talent (look at him and Chubb at Georgia).

Michel, despite being an injury concern, is someone you should start looking to draft as early as the fifth or sixth round. He’ll have his dud weeks and might miss games because he’s banged up, but in the games he does play, Sony Michel should be one of your better performers.
