With the plethora of good runnings backs that the Chiefs will face this season, it’s imperative that the run defense has to improve. Running backs like Le’Veon Bell, Todd Gurley, and Leonard Fournette will most certainly take advantage of a lackluster run defense given the opportunity.
Even seeing names like David Johnson and Melvin Gordon on the Chiefs’ schedule should be reason enough to expect a big priority to be put on improving the run defense. It seemed that one of the primary focuses of the offseason for Kansas City was getting better up front and stopping the run.
After two consecutive postseason failures to stop the run, it was time for a change. Veach worked hard over the offseason bringing in guys that could address this very issue. From adding some strength at middle linebacker to an improved defensive front to getting a leader back, the Chiefs should be much better than they were in 2017.
