Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon

Melvin Gordon is another name that I don’t hear enough when talking about fantasy running backs. While he has yet to top his 3.9 yards per carry in his three seasons with the Chargers, his extremely high volume of a workload makes up for that.

Last season, Gordon finished as the seventh highest targeted running back in the red zone. He also ranked third in rushing attempts inside the 20 last year. There’s no reason to think that his heavy workload in the red zone will change this season considering the starting tight end for the Chargers, Hunter Henry, is lost for the season due to injury.

Given the injury to Henry during training camp, Gordon could see even more chances inside the red zone for the Chargers offense. While he may not have the highest yards per attempt, we know that he will get the ball plenty. Last season Gordon ranked third in rushing attempts. With quarterback Philip Rivers getting another year older, I see no reason why that would change in 2018.
