Kansas City Chiefs: Tanoh Kpassagnon and Breeland Speaks development
Conclusion
As of right now, Tanoh Kpassagnon has the edge over Breeland Speaks. Both players have looked good in training camp and their first preseason game, but Tanoh has shown more development to be ready to start in the NFL. Of course, this is only one preseason game to look at. We could be looking at this entirely different come the final preseason game.
Considering that Kpassagnon has shown some new moves to his arsenal against Houston, I’m very excited to see how successful he is with those moves as the preseason progresses. Tanoh showed the ability to hang with the ones and twos of Houston which was another impressive thing to see.
We have very little film to go over against the run as the Texans spent most of the night making short passes. Speaks looked solid against the run and had more of an ability to get off his blocker than we saw from Tanoh, but I need to see more snaps.
Both players can set the edge well. Regardless of which player is more pro-ready, I think both of them have the advantage over Ford on early downs. I think we will see Ford become more of a situational player this year and allow Kpassagnon and Speaks to take those early snaps.
I would also like to see Speaks line up on the inside during the preseason. Veach stated following picking Speaks in the draft that he would move inside on passing downs and we didn’t get a chance to see that against Houston. I would like to see what he could do from a defensive end position on passing downs.
