FANTASY FOOTBALL SLEEPERS TO TARGET: NUMBER 8 – ALEX SMITH

Alex Smith is in his first year as the quarterback for the Washington Redskins and even after a stellar 2017 campaign, fantasy owners will still sleep on him in this year’s draft. They shouldn’t.

Smith had a career year for the Kansas City Chiefs last year, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 26 touchdowns with just FIVE interceptions. That’s the positive with Smith is that he protects the football incredibly well and you won’t lose points with him.

The knock on Smith has always been his inability to throw the ball deep and not getting balls into the end zone as much as owners would like. Last year he threw for a career high in yards and in touchdowns and that’s likely why the Redskins felt comfortable in giving him so much money.

Smith is also dangerous with his legs, which is another great aspect to have in a quarterback when it comes to fantasy football. He had over 300 yards rushing last year and found the end zone once.

Alex Smith isn’t the flashiest quarterback, but when it comes to fantasy football, he is the perfect option to have as your backup. He’s not good enough to put up great stats every week (though last year he came close), but he’ll do enough to get you a decent amount of points. Consistency is key sometimes.
