The Kansas City Chiefs spent a great deal of money this offseason to bring in wide receiver Sammy Watkins. His injury at camp has fans concerned.

When the Kansas City Chiefs made a surprising move this offseason to bring in wide receiver Sammy Watkins, the response from fans was all over the place. Considering the lucrative deal of $48 million over the years, fans have the right to wonder if their team made a good investment.

Watkins would be an addition to an already stacked playmakers group in Kansas City. Brett Veach added Watkins to secure his offensive juggernaut in hopes that the first year starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes would have little struggles.

One primary reason that fans have been skeptical of Watkins’ deal this offseason is his inability to stay healthy. Missing time in Buffalo due to foot injuries resulted in his trade to the Los Angeles Rams last season. While he was able to stay healthy for the Rams, once you are labeled injury prone, it’s almost impossible to escape it.

The Chiefs have suffered a significant amount of minor injuries during training camp which could raise some alarms. Watkins added to the list on Monday as he was unable to finish practice due to a hip injury. There have been no further reports on the injury, and I don’t feel that there is any reason to panic just yet.

Keep in mind that players all over the roster have been injured and missed time during camp this season. Kareem Hunt, Reggie Ragland, Anthony Hitchens, and many more have all left practice early or been limited during camp.

While we can talk about Watkins not playing 16 games except for one year in his four-year career, the stat gets overblown. Last season Watkins played in 15 games and 13 in 2015. The only season he missed significant time was in 2016 where he missed eight games. Before you label him injury prone, let’s remind ourselves that he has been on the field.
