CHIEFS VETERANS THAT COULD BE CUT

ANTHONY SHERMAN – Fullback

Much of what was said, in spirit, applies to Anthony Sherman. He’s the only fullback on the roster in a league that has completely devalued the position and one has to wonder what the Chiefs view of the value of the position. Due to a variety of factors, Sherman was the main ballcarrier in their week 17 defeat of the Broncos in Mahomes’ debut.

However, if the Chiefs go more three-wide sets or double tight end sets, do they need the fullback? Spencer Ware was a fullback at LSU and likely could fill in well enough at the position and save a roster spot to allow greater depth in the defensive backfield (which is filled and almost overflowing with concerns and question marks).

After the Chiefs re-signed De’Anthony Thomas in the offseason and reworked the Spencer Ware contract on top of bringing in the aforementioned Williams, is there a spot for a run blocking fullback? Again, this could come down to where the organization puts their money and how they view the depth at other positions.

Moving on from Sherman would allow the Chiefs to save 2 million in cap space without incurring any dead cap. While it’s known the organization likes Sherman, this could be a move to look out for, especially if the secondary shows the issues many are fearing.
