KC Royals: Dayton Moore will make noise at winter meetings
By John McCarty
Fourth, overrated farm system. While that sounds difficult when the system is not rated highly by anyone, the prospects at the top of the system are all presenting issues worthy of concern as their performance is concerning.
Nick Pratto is hitting for limited power and a lot of ground balls while striking out 32% in low A ball. Catching prospect MJ Melendez can neither stop striking out or hitting ground balls and is not getting on base at all.
Nothing makes that point more than slugging strikeout machine Seuly Matias. In A ball, Matias (who is not overly young for the level) has hit 27 home runs while striking out a mind numbing, staggering 150 times thus far this season. To further make the point, Matias has 280 at bats. For those counting at home, Matias strikes out roughly 41% of the time. His on base percentage is below .300.
Again. these are numbers in Low-A minor league baseball in Lexington. These are numbers that are greatly concerning. If a player is having issues making consistent contact at this level, what will they look like when they get to High A Ball Wilmington or even Double A Northwest Arkansas?
