BEST GAMES OF MAHOMES’ COLLEGIATE CAREER – NUMBER 8

TEXAS TECH VS IOWA STATE – NOVEMBER 22, 2014

Mahomes saw significant playing time as a freshman in 2014 and his game against Iowa State was one of his best performances. It was a close game all the way through, but Mahomes and his Red Raiders persevered over the Cyclones.

Mahomes had just one touchdown in the first half, a 26 yard pass to Deandre Washington that gave Texas Tech the lead. The Red Raiders were behind 24-14 in the third quarter, but that’s when Patrick Mahomes kicked it into high gear and turned red hot.

He threw two touchdowns in the third quarter, both to Devin Lauderdale, one of which was an 82-yard beauty down the field. That 82-yard strike put TTU ahead by just three points, but as we all know, defense is hard to find in college football and the Cyclones soon took the lead once again.

Mahomes had the final laugh, giving his team the lead with a 44 yard pass to Kenny Williams. Texas Tech hung on in this tight game, winning it 34-31. Neither team was all that great at this point in the season, but people who didn’t know who Patrick Mahomes was before this game, likely knew his name afterwards.

STATS: 23 of 35 for 328 yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 32 rushing yards
