BEST GAMES OF MAHOMES’ COLLEGIATE CAREER – NUMBER 9

TEXAS TECH VS STEPHEN F. AUSTIN – SEPTEMBER 3, 2016

Sure, not many people put a lot of stock into games against non-conference opponents, but this is a list appreciating the best games of Patrick Mahomes’ collegiate career. His start junior year against Stephen F. Austin needs to be on this list.

It was Texas Tech’s 2016 opener and the Red Raiders didn’t disappoint. Mahomes connected with Cameron Batson four minutes into the game on a 13-yard pass that made it 7-0 TTU early on. SFA never really stood a chance in this game, but it’s worth noting that it was 35-0 before the Lumberjacks put points on the board.

Mahomes had two rushing touchdowns to make it 21-0 and 28-0 nothing respectively. One run was from three yards out and another from seven yards away. His fourth total touchdown on the day came on a 22-yard strike to Jonathan Giles, making it 35-0 in favor of the Red Raiders.

Mahomes continued his impressive day, hitting Dylan Cantrell with an eight-yard touchdown pass, making it 42-3 shortly before the half. Mahomes and his squad were having themselves a day, that’s for sure.

TTU had such a big lead that after Mahomes tossed his fourth touchdown of the day (a 14-yarder to Dylan Lauderdale), he got the rest of the afternoon off. His Red Raiders went on to win by a score of 69-17.

STATS: 30 of 43 for 483 yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 57 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns
