A look at the running backs for the Wildcats

The Wildcats have been a proud running team for decades. The starting running back in 2018 has the chance to become that next star in a long line of running backs. The running back group, in general, is a talented one.

Alex Barnes

Going into his junior year, he has a chance to make that next step and be the featured back. He’s shown flashes of being that breakthrough back. He can be a game changer when given the opportunity. The issue with Alex Barnes is he has yet to show he can catch the ball out of the backfield.

Justin Silmon

Justin Silmon is a great compliment back on a team that has a featured back. If Barnes turns out to be the running back we hope he is, Silmon will play a big role in the success of this team. His usage has been consistent since his freshman year. He’s run for over 100 yards only twice, but he’s only had 10 or more attempts five times.

Dalvin Warmack

The offense will have a new coordinator this season in Andre Coleman. It will be something to watch this year as Dalvin Warmack has a broader range of skills than the others in the group. He isn’t the best running back on the team, but he can do more than the other backs.

Mike McCoy

We didn’t see much of Mike McCoy last year, but the little we did see was enough to keep us excited. His run against Charlotte was something of beauty as he simply ran right through a defender for a 15-yard touchdown run. Mike is the darkhorse here. He has an absolute chance to make waves this season as his workload should increase now in his sophomore season.
