The players behind the three starters are what has fans even more worried. If one of these top three players goes down, the Chiefs will have to rely on unproven talent to step into a significant role. Considering that the team was late picking at the position in the draft and failed to submit picks for one of the Supplemental Draft players indicates that they are happy with what they got in young talent.

Veach spoke on guys like Keith Reaser and Will Redmond as guys that are being overlooked. Not being guys that are being talked about but that the Chiefs feel can develop into good starters.

"“A lot of people won’t talk about those guys, but when you start stacking those types of players in regards to what is out there in the draft class you feel good about them.”"

The one cornerback that the Chiefs took in the 2018 Draft was in the sixth-round out of Central Arkansas, Tremon Smith. During his pro day, Smith showed exceptional speed with a 4.32 40-yard dash. He also showed plenty of flashes during rookie minicamp that has the team excited about his potential.

Another player that’s name has been heard a few times is undrafted free agent cornerback Arrion Springs out of Oregon. He’s another player that made flashes during rookie minicamp, and the team seems excited about. Given the amount of young talent with guys like Reaser, Smith, Springs, and Redmond, the Chiefs didn’t feel it was the right move to add another name to the list by taking Sam Beal.

All in all, there are a lot of question marks in regards to the cornerback position, but it seems that Veach is high on their young talent. Veach has brought in some great players so far that panned out well like inside linebacker Reggie Ragland for one example, so all I can do is trust his eye for talent. We will see what these younger guys look like during preseason, but with the addition of having safety Eric Berry back on the field, I expect the secondary to look better than it did last year.
