Kansas City Chiefs: 3 most intriguing things to watch at Training Camp
By Chris Taylor
There are currently 14 receivers on the Kansas City Chiefs roster
There is no question that Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins are your No.1 and No. 2 receivers on the team. No battle, no question. Behind them is a plethora of guys not only trying to make the final roster but trying to make the practice squad as well.
Chris Conley is entering a redemption season in 2018. After his season ended in week five last year, his future looked somewhat dim with the type of year Albert Wilson was having in his spot. With Wilson gone, Conley has a chance to revitalize himself during a contract year.
Demarcus Robinson started eight games last season and showed the Chiefs that he can play at this level. He wasn’t utilized as much as he probably wanted to be, so although many think his spot is safe, he is still going to have to work for it.
Marcus Kemp is a guy that will be fighting for his NFL future. He managed to suit up for one game last year but didn’t record any stats. He spent the majority of the season on the practice squad in 2017.
Gehrig Dieter was the only player on the roster that spent the entire 2017 season on the practice squad. His friendship with Patrick Mahomes may give him a small upside here, with Pat now being the starting quarterback. It will be interesting to see how the two gel on the field. Look for Mahomes to be looking for his buddy throughout the preseason.
Byron Pringle is one to watch for sure. The former Kansas State Wildcat has great athleticism and nice moves. He’s a small guy but could be used in multiple four and five-receiver sets. If I was a betting man, I would expect Pringle to start the season on the practice squad.
De’Anthony Thomas may have played his last year with the Chiefs. If there is a gimmick style receiver on the team, it’s him. His return specialties weren’t so special last season, which doesn’t help his case. The chances of him making the squad on receiver skills alone are smaller than if he was a dependable return guy.
Jehu Chesson, Blake Mack, Daniel Braverman, Josh Crockett, Elijah Marks, and Jordan Smallwood are all hoping to be that needle in a haystack for Kansas City. Chesson played in 12 games last season on the special teams. He only caught two passes on four targets.

These are the positions, players, and battles I am most intrigued by this offseason. There are plenty of spots to be had in 2018 on the defensive line, linebacker, and running back positions. It will be interesting how things work out as the roster is dwindled down.
