Kansas City Chiefs: Five Defensive Players to Watch in 2018
By Chris Clark
ERIC BERRY
In some respects, Eric Berry is a lot like Justin Houston. He was given a massive payday that was followed up by season ending injury. The Kingdom knows the kind of fire Berry brings to the field. With the Chiefs lack of defense during the 2017 season it could lead anyone to see how much Berry was missed. It isn’t just the talent a player brings to the field, but the leadership as well.
Fortunately for Kansas City, Berry registers high in both of these categories. There is a lot of cautious optimism surrounding the Chiefs on both sides of the football. With a high powered offense already in place, it’s up to the defense to hold up there end of the bargain.
With a lot of new and young talent, it will be interesting to see how much of Berry’s motivation spills over into the other players. The Chiefs secondary is one of the bigger concerns for the upcoming season after losing Marcus Paters’ big playmaking ability.
Having Berry back roaming the passing lanes should provide both interceptions and better tackling. Look for Berry to lead a much improved defense for the upcoming season.
