Spencer Ware

Following a rare injury last season to his PCL and LCL during the preseason, many fans have either forgotten about Spencer Ware or have written him off due to the abilities of Kareem Hunt. While Hunt will remain the starter, Ware would be a great running back two option for Kansas City. He proved his versatility in his one season as the starting running back rushing for 921 yards and three touchdowns while also catching 33 passes for 447 yards and two more touchdowns.

During his only season as a starter, Ware suffered multiple injuries including a concussion suffered in week seven against the Indianapolis Colts. During the six games prior, Ware was averaging 5.35 yards per carry. Most fans will remember the week one comeback game against the Los Angeles Chargers, back then it was San Diego, where Ware rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on 11 attempts and caught seven passes for 129 additional yards.

Considering the style of play that Ware brings to the table, he should find a spot on the roster to backup Hunt. Coming in as a fullback to Kansas City, Ware has shown that while he is a bruising style runner first, he can also be elusive and catch passes out of the backfield. The question is whether he will be healthy and ready to go come regular season?

Ware posted a video of him running drills in the sand recently that has me believing he is ready to go and the Chiefs are just cautious. In this video, you can see that Ware can make cuts and movements without any hesitation. Half the battle is mental when it comes to injury, and it seems Ware is very confident in his recovery and ready to prove himself. He will also be entering a contract season in 2018 which makes it even more promising that he will be putting forth everything he has to earn a new deal if not in Kansas City, then somewhere via free agency.
