Kansas City Chiefs: Best Games From the Andy Reid Era
BEST GAMES OF THE ANDY REID ERA
OCTOBER 25TH, 2015 VS PITTSBURGH STEELERS
The Chiefs had a miserable start to the 2015 season and looked dead in the water after racking up their fifth straight loss to sit at 1-5 on the year. Then… Something crazy happened. The Kansas City Chiefs woke up and started playing good football.
The turnaround came in week seven and the Chiefs were hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team that was notorious for handing it to the Chiefs every year. This time, however, Landry Jones was getting the start for the Steelers in Kansas City and that meant the Chiefs had a much better shot at winning, even if they were horrendous at the time.
This game makes the list for several reasons, but the biggest one being that it saw Eric Berry intercept a pass for the first time since he returned from his cancer treatments. It truly was an awesome moment.
The other reason it made the list is because this was the first of 11 straight wins for the KC Chiefs in the 2015 season. After looking like they were heading for a top five draft pick, the Chiefs rattled off 11 straight victories and were one of the better teams in the league by season’s end.
- Alex Smith completed 21 passes out of 35 attempts for 251 yards and a touchdown.
- Charcandrick West introduced himself to the NFL, rushing for 110 yards off of 22 carries and finding the end zone once.
- Travis Kelce and Albert Wilson both had over 70 yards receiving.
- Chris Conley scored his first NFL touchdown and had 63 yards receiving on the day.
- Landry Jones threw for 209 yards with one touchdown and two picks. He was sacked twice, both by Tamba Hali
- Eric Berry had one pick while Derrick Johnson had the other.
- Le’Veon Bell torched Kansas City as always, putting up 121 yards on the ground. Can that guy go away?
- Antonio Brown also continued to dominate the Chiefs, hauling in six catches for 124 yards. Justin Houston was not covering him though, I don’t think.
The Chiefs weren’t good in week seven of the NFL season, but they figured out what wasn’t working for them and took advantage of the Steelers not having their starting quarterback. Had Ben Roethlisberger been playing that week, it’s likely the Chiefs would have been 1-6 after this game and their playoff hopes would have been virtually at zero.
Instead, they won and this was the beginning of something special. It all started with that Eric Berry interception. That guy is a wizard.
