BEST GAMES OF THE ANDY REID ERA

NOVEMBER 16TH, 2014 VS SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

The Chiefs started the 2014 season off with a 2-3 record, but things got interesting when they hit a four-game winning streak. Their potential fifth straight win would be tough, as they were welcoming in the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks to Arrowhead.

This was as exciting a game could get, as both teams duked it out for four quarters and it came down to the wire in Kansas City. The Chiefs ultimately won 24-20 and never trailed in the game. It was one of the best wins of not only the season, but of the Andy Reid era.

What made this an appealing game was that both teams had two of the best defenses in the league, so fans knew it’d be a low scoring affair. It got the afternoon primetime slot on FOX, which was the first time in years that the Chiefs got that honor.

This victory put the Chiefs at 7-3 on the year and they looked poised to battle with the Broncos for the AFC West title, or at the very least, a playoff spot. After their fifth straight win and knocking off the defending champs, the Chiefs were rocking. This is a game I’ll always remember for the pure fact that it was a grind-it-out type of win that the Chiefs absolutely deserved to celebrate.

  • Alex Smith attempted just 16 passes, going 11 of 16 for 108 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
  • Jamaal Charles dominated the Seahawks run game, putting up 159 yards on the ground with two trips into the end zone.
  • Russell Wilson was held to 178 yards with two touchdowns, but rushed for 71 yards on the day.
  • Marshawn Lynch was problematic for Kansas City all day, carrying the ball 24 times for 124 yards.
  • Seattle was driving down the field to attempt to take the lead late in the game, but the Chiefs stopped them from converting on fourth and one. Seattle had another crack at it, but Wilson couldn’t connect with anyone down the field and the Seahawks turned it over on downs.

This was one of those games where both sides were playing hard and it came down to the wire. The Chiefs never trailed, but fans were definitely worried near the end that the Seahawks could wind up stealing this one. The defense pulled through though and a fifth straight win happened against one of the best teams in the league.
