Kansas City Chiefs: Best Games From the Andy Reid Era
BEST GAMES OF THE ANDY REID ERA
SEPTEMBER 29TH, 2014 VS NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
After a 1-2 start to the 2014 season, the Kansas City Chiefs welcomed in the New England Patriots for a Monday Night Football affair. In what was arguably the greatest two nights back-to-back in Kansas City for sports fans, the Chiefs got Royals fans even more jacked up prior to their Wild Card game the following night.
Tom Brady has struggled at Arrowhead Stadium during his long career and this game was yet another example of that. The Chiefs offense and defense were on point with the offense scoring in every quarter and the defense owning Brady and holding the Patriots scoreless in the first half.
This was also the game in which the Chiefs broke the loudest outdoor stadium record, which Seattle had stolen from them the season prior. The sea of red didn’t disappoint and that had to contribute in the Chiefs’ 41-14 slaughtering of the New England Patriots, who would go on to win the Super Bowl that season.
- Alex Smith went 20 of 26 for 248 yards and three touchdowns.
- Knile Davis out rushed Jamaal Charles, putting up 107 rushing yards.
- Charles rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown and also hauled in two receiving touchdowns.
- Travis Kelce had himself a game, grabbing eight receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown.
- Dwayne Bowe had five receptions for 81 yards.
- Tom Brady went 14 of 23 for 159 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He was sacked twice and fumbled twice. He was eventually benched in favor of Jimmy Garoppolo late in the game, who went six of seven for 70 yards and a touchdown, but the game was out of reach at that point.
This was easily one of the best games of the Andy Reid era. Reid knows how to beat the Patriots and Arrowhead knows how to get to Tom Brady. Now if only the league could schedule the Patriots to play at Arrowhead again, as this game was the last time Bill Belichick and his minions had to travel to Kansas City.
